Selling your daughter as a sex slave is OK:

(Note that after God promises the Israelites a victory against Babylon, the Israelites actually get their butts kicked by them in the next chapter. So much for an all-knowing and all-powerful God.)

Destruction of Ai
Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Do not be afraid or discouraged. Take the entire army and attack Ai, for I have given to you the king of Ai, his people, his city, and his land. You will destroy them as you destroyed Jericho and its king. But this time you may keep the captured goods and the cattle for yourselves. Set an ambush behind the city.” So Joshua and the army of Israel set out to attack Ai. Joshua chose thirty thousand fighting men and sent them out at night with these orders: “Hide in ambush close behind the city and be ready for action. When our main army attacks, the men of Ai will come out to fight as they did before, and we will run away from them. We will let them chase us until they have all left the city. For they will say, ‘The Israelites are running away from us as they did before.’ Then you will jump up from your ambush and take possession of the city, for the LORD your God will give it to you. Set the city on fire, as the LORD has commanded. You have your orders.” So they left that night and lay in ambush between Bethel and the west side of Ai. But Joshua remained among the people in the camp that night.
Early the next morning Joshua roused his men and started toward Ai, accompanied by the leaders of Israel. They camped on the north side of Ai, with a valley between them and the city. That night Joshua sent five thousand men to lie in ambush between Bethel and Ai, on the west side of the city. So they stationed the main army north of the city and the ambush west of the city. Joshua himself spent that night in the valley. When the king of Ai saw the Israelites across the valley, he and all his army hurriedly went out early the next morning and attacked the Israelites at a place overlooking the Jordan Valley. But he didn’t realize there was an ambush behind the city. Joshua and the Israelite army fled toward the wilderness as though they were badly beaten, and all the men in the city were called out to chase after them. In this way, they were lured away from the city. There was not a man left in Ai or Bethel who did not chase after the Israelites, and the city was left wide open.
Then the LORD said to Joshua, “Point your spear toward Ai, for I will give you the city.” Joshua did as he was commanded. As soon as Joshua gave the signal, the men in ambush jumped up and poured into the city. They quickly captured it and set it on fire. When the men of Ai looked behind them, smoke from the city was filling the sky, and they had nowhere to go. For the Israelites who had fled in the direction of the wilderness now turned on their pursuers. When Joshua and the other Israelites saw that the ambush had succeeded and that smoke was rising from the city, they turned and attacked the men of Ai. Then the Israelites who were inside the city came out and started killing the enemy from the rear. So the men of Ai were caught in a trap, and all of them died. Not a single person survived or escaped. Only the king of Ai was taken alive and brought to Joshua.
When the Israelite army finished killing all the men outside the city, they went back and finished off everyone inside. So the entire population of Ai was wiped out that day – twelve thousand in all. For Joshua kept holding out his spear until everyone who had lived in Ai was completely destroyed. Only the cattle and the treasures of the city were not destroyed, for the Israelites kept these for themselves, as the LORD had commanded Joshua. So Ai became a permanent mound of ruins, desolate to this very day. Joshua hung the king of Ai on a tree and left him there until evening. At sunset the Israelites took down the body and threw it in front of the city gate. They piled a great heap of stones over him that can still be seen today. (Joshua 8:1-29 NLT)

My Story
When I was a kid my southern Baptist church taught me that everything in the bible was 100% literally the TRUTH. I thought this was fucking fantastic until I turned in to a man. Then reality hit me like a ton of wet shit at the age of 18.
Then all the fun & games ended.
Until 18, I literally lived every word of the bible with all my heart, mind, & soul. I attended one of the largest churches in one of the largest cities in the country. I was handpicked, along with two other young men, and, “prepped,” (or encouraged), to go in to the ministry.
I never went in to the ministry. I did go away to college.
After completely devoting myself to, (the extreme fundamental version of), Christ from the age of 6 to 18, I turned away. Why?
Because it didn’t work
As I grew in to a young man, I knew in my heart, mind, soul, & gut that my parents, pastor, & church had simply lied.
I was not a happy camper
(I believe many young people, young adults, & older adults quietly realize this lie. But for some reason they push this to the very back of their mind. I know because I too did this for many years. We do this because comprehending this reality is beyond overwhelming. The realization that we have been lied to by those we love & trust the most is simply incomprehensible).
In reality, most, “Christian,” adults simply pick and choose what they want from the Bible
But I was still searching for TRUTH.
I started researching the Bible historically.
What did I learn?
I learned many facts that no church will ever discuss & which could fill a book. But let us keep this elementary.
One of the most shocking things I learned was this–many of the, “greatest,” stories in the Bible are not unique. The same stories in the Bible were once common myths & legends. These myths & legends were common long before the Bible was ever written. Many of its myths are not even original, but were derived from earlier Middle Eastern myths.

Back to my story . . .
I went to the library and tried to understand. At first, I literally felt guilty for reading books about the history of the bible. I felt guilty because I was not supposed to be reading these books—these books were, “heretical.” They were heretical because my mom, pastor, nor church ever spoke of such things. Specifically, I was raised & taught that anything that deviated from the teachings of the church were Satanic, heresy, & wrong. Inside of me, despite knowing I was doing the right thing by going to the library, I still felt guilty inside.
My cult-like childhood was still there—there is no, “On-Off,” button for a reality to which you have been conditioned & by which you have been taught by those you trust most.
These books clearly showed inaccuracies, errors, but more importantly much, much greater problems with the Bible. The guilt then turned in to bewilderment & feeling overwhelmed by facts & history . . .
I had been duped
Over time, the feelings of bewilderment have evolved in to a state of being disturbed—not a pretty picture. And, finally, this disturbed state has evolved in to anger.
Why the anger you ask?
Because the information I found in my public library was there all along.
If I found it, then why in the hell couldn’t my church, pastor, and parents find it?

Therefore, this intelligent politician told this group of religious leaders to pick the most popular religious books of the time and put them in to a, “Bible.” This is the, “Holy Bible,” that we read today.

5. Were the people who chose which books went into the bible–the bible we know today, inspired by God?
6. If the people who chose which books went in to the bible were inspired by God, were in the Bible does it state this?
7.What was the motive of the people who chose the books of the bible-the bible as we know it today?
8. What was the general process of how a book was deemed to go into the bible-the bible as we know it today?
General Questions:
A. Why are many Christians, (just about every one I have ever met), completely unable to answer these most profound, fundamental, basic, & truly inherent questions about their very own faith?
B. Why do many, (literally every one I have ever met in my life in person), Christians find such intrinsic questions as heretical, as showing a lack of faith, and just wrong?
C. In your opinion would Jesus find a person who is sincerely, from their heart, asking/researching/contemplating the above questions to be backslidden, weird, heretical, or showing a lack of faith?
I put these exact questions on a site called, “Independent Spirits.” With little response at first, I then encouraged people to print these questions out and take them to their pastor or religious leader and get that person to answer these questions-no one on that website did that. (The first question was easy-#1 . . . “From when to when was the Bible written? . . . “ I wanted response, so I made the first one a, “gimme”).
The few that responded rarely came up with anything close to the same answer . . .
They Were All Over the Place . . . Utterly, Totally, & Quite Literally Clueless . . . & Had No Plans of Changing
They were all over the place because not one of them had spent one minute in any public library to conduct genuine research on the Bible, and these people had no idea how to answer the most basic questions about a book in which they placed the eternity of their soul & the souls of their own family.
That’s not good.
That’s bad-real, real bad, but it gets worse.
The disheartening part is that not a one of them ever said, “Hey, you know what, I really have no idea where the Bible came from-and thanks for bringing this whole thing up. I have pretty much accepted what Joe Blow in my local church has told me. So I am going to the library and I’m going to do some basic research.”
Now to the Really Bad Part
The really bad, or better stated, sad part about introducing the most basic questions about the Bible to the, “Independent Spirits,” website, is that this website is generally composed of survivors of extreme religious abuse–people who have most sincerely suffered real trauma & grief to say the least, from extreme fundamental Christian groups. (Primarily these good people on this website are speaking about damage to their lives after living through a living hell as a result of a, “mainstream,” extreme fundamental, (cult), leader which many modern day churches still to this day accept as good-churches in your neighborhood. Maybe even the church you attend. The leader of this, “acceptable,” cult is named Bill Gothard).
The really sad part about challenging the good meaning people on this well meaning website is that even after these people have suffered a life of misery as a result of extreme fundamental groups, they were not even close to identifying the most obvious problem right in front of their faces-their own bible.
These good people were not seeing the forest for the trees-the same bible & church that, “church authorities,” had used to bring them in to insanity, they themselves went right back to without a thought!
A few people saw right through the whole thing, rejected religion, and were happy to move on & not shy about discussing this.
The Problem:
The problem was & is that the good people, who realize the whole religious thing is just a quick hand job, do not stick around to help the others still stuck in it. They all just leave and try to forget the whole fucking thing!!!

There are literally thousands of religious strings, and millions of web pages caught in this vicious cycle; and save a tiny few, not a one of these religious strings or web pages is approaching the real problem:
1. Enormous ego
2. Ignorance of history & their own bible
3. Denial of #1 & #2
4. Lack of shame of #1-#3.
The most disturbing part of my life-long experience in interacting with people one-on-one, as well as dealing with people for a period of about two years on the internet, is that 99.9% express a complete lack of shame that they clearly have no idea concerning the most elementary questions about their own bible & faith. It amazes, troubles, and genuinely dumbfounds me every day of my life.

Therefore, most of them will shutdown, and re-direct this energy back at you.
In other words, they simply are not able to even begin to answer these questions, and they will immediately transfer their complete inability to answer the most elementary questions about their own belief in to a personal attack against the person asking these questions:

These people have far too much invested. And, regardless, tell me how prey-tell a married fundamental man or women is going to spend days, months, or years honestly & objectively researching/questioning something in which their very existence is already completely invested?
It will never happen—it is just too, damn, hard.
